RuPaul sets record for most Emmys by a Black artist

RuPaul is striking a pose in the history books, setting a record for the most Emmy Award wins by a Black artist.

The “RuPaul’s Drag Race” executive producer and host picked up his 11th Emmy at Sunday’s awards ceremony in Los Angeles, beating out other nominees including “The Amazing Race,” “The Voice,” “Top Chef” and “Nailed It!” in the competition series category.

“Thanks to all of our lovely children on our show from around the world,” the VH1 personality, born RuPaul Charles, said while accepting his Emmy for the show’s 13th season. “They are so gracious to tell their stories of courage and how to navigate this difficult life — even more difficult today.”
