At least 46 people across the Northeast have died after the remnants of Hurricane Ida poured across the region, according to USA Today.

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy (D) announced Thursday that 23 individuals were reported dead in the storm, a majority of which were caught in their vehicles by flooding.

In addition, 16 people were reported dead in New York. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) also reported that 13 individuals had died due to the storm.

“It’s my sad duty to report that we’ve now lost a total of 13 New Yorkers to last night’s storm. This is a tragic loss for our city,” de Blasio tweeted.

Three other New York deaths were reported in Westchester County, according to News 12.

In addition, five deaths were reported in Pennsylvania, one in Maryland and one in Connecticut, USA Today reports.

Hurricane Ida made landfall along the Gulf Coast on Sunday, leaving at least 1 million without power and forcing many people to evacuate.

Some power has been restored to New Orleans, including the French Quarter, after Ida pounded the region.

At least six deaths were reported due to the storm in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. The death toll grew after an electric company confirmed that two of its workers were killed while repairing power lines, CBS News reports.

President Biden is expected to visit Louisiana on Friday to survey the damage from Hurricane Ida. He said Thursday that his administration would help those impacted by the hurricane.

“My message to everyone affected is, we’re all in this together. The nation is here to help. That’s the message I’ve been making clear to the majors, governors, energy and utility leaders in the region who my administration has been working closely with over the last few days,” Biden said.
