11 ISIS militants killed in raid, Pakistan says

Pakistan’s counterterrorism units killed 11 ISIS militants after raiding the group’s hideout in the southwestern Baluchistan province early Tuesday morning, The Associated Press reported

The units carried out the raid in the Mastung district, where ISIS members recently killed two police officers, the AP reported. Police reportedly confiscated suicide belts, hand grenades and assault rifles in the raid.

The counterterrorism department, a special branch of police focused on fighting terrorism groups, did not release any more information on the raid and did not immediately identify the nationality of the slain members.

Quetta, the capital of Baluchistan, is where ISIS has claimed responsibility for several attacks in recent years, according to the AP. The terrorist group has regional affiliates in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The province is also the scene of a lower-level insurgency by multiple Baluch separatist groups, targeting non-Baluch laborers. However, they have no history of attacks on the minority Shiite community, the AP noted.
