Police feared ‘Las Vegas-style shooting’ during All-Star Game, four arrested

Police said they feared a “Las Vegas-style shooting” could have occured during the All-Star Game in Denver this week after discovering dozens of guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition in a hotel room near Coors Field.

Law enforcement sources told Denver7  the weapons were found on the eighth floor of the Maven Hotel just as celebrations for the All-Star Game began.

After receiving a tip from a maid at the hotel, 16 long guns, body armor and over a thousand rounds of ammunition were found in the room which has a balcony overlooking Denver’s downtown area.

Three men and one woman were arrested in connection to the incident: Richard Platt, Gabriel Rodriguez, Ricardo Rodriguez and Kanoelehua Serikawa. The three suspects were arrested for possession of a weapon by a previous offender. Platt and Gabriel Rodriguez were also charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, Denver7 reported.

According to authorities, one the men involved had posted on social media that he was planning to “go out in a big way,” in reference to a recent divorce.

“The investigation and arrests were the result of a tip from the public, serving as an excellent example of the critical role the community plays in public safety,” the Denver Police Department (DPD) said in a statement on Saturday, according to Denver7.

“DPD encourages residents and visitors to always be aware of their surroundings and to report suspicious or illegal activity to police immediately. Please call 911 for emergencies; the non-emergency number is 720-913-2000.”
