Biden set to welcome Jordan’s royal family to White House

President Biden and first lady Jill Biden will host King Abdullah II of Jordan and his family at the White House on July 19.

The king will be joined by Queen Rania and Prince Hussein, White House press secretary Jen Psaki announced on Wednesday.

“His Majesty’s visit will highlight the enduring and strategic partnership between the United States and Jordan, a key security partner and ally of the United States,” Psaki said in a statement.

Biden and Abdullah are expected to discuss challenges in the Middle East and Jordan’s role in promoting peace and stability.

“President Biden looks forward to working with His Majesty to strengthen bilateral cooperation on multiple political, security, and economic issues, including the promotion of economic opportunities that will be vital for a bright future in Jordan,” Psaki said.

Abdullah, who opposed former President Trump’s Middle East peace plan because he considered it a national security threat, is on a three-week visit to the U.S. that will include the visit to the White House, Reuters reported.

Biden has reaffirmed his support for the Jordan royal family, and his commitment to a two-state solution for Palestine and Israel has taken pressure off of Jordan, which includes a large population of Palestinians.
