A volunteer for the New York mayoral candidate Eric Adams’s campaign was stabbed Sunday while canvassing in the Bronx.

“A member of Team Adams — who has been working hard & volunteering every day — was stabbed in the Bronx today @ 149th St & Morris Ave. The police are investigating & he’s in surgery,” Adams tweeted. “We pray for him. This violence must stop.”

The New York Police Department Crime Stoppers tweeted Monday that a male victim had been stabbed multiple times around 2:30 p.m. The perpetrator and another man who accompanied him can be seen in security footage shared by the organization.

Fellow candidates in the New York mayoral race, in which Adams currently holds a slight lead ahead of Tuesday’s Democratic primary, tweeted out their well wishes for the volunteer.

“Horrible news. My thoughts are with your volunteer, their family, and your entire team, Eric,” former presidential candidate Andrew Yang tweeted.

“My thoughts are with he and his family and my heart hurts for Team Adams today. New Yorkers shouldn’t have to fear walking down the street,” lawyer and civil rights activist Maya Wiley tweeted.

The Hill has reached out to Adams’s campaign for further comment regarding the incident.
