The president and founder of the Center for the Study of Partisanship and Ideology, Richard Hanania, joined Hill.TV’s “Rising” on Monday to discuss the obstacles President Biden will face in Washington to removing U.S. combat forces from Afghanistan.
Hanania told co-hosts Saagar Enjeti and Krystal Ball that much of the opposition to Biden’s decision so far has come from establishment figures in the media as well as Republicans, who he noted are mostly marginalized by Democratic control of the House and Senate.
“The Republican Party has been pretty angry about this but like I said they don’t control either house of Congress. The Democratic leadership has been largely supportive, that includes [Senate Majority Leader Charles] Schumer (D-N.Y.), that includes [Speaker Nancy] Pelosi (D-Calif.),” he said.
“Biden has surrounded himself with serious professional people, so I think they’ve accepted defeat here and I don’t think there will be a lot of opposition in Washington,” he added
