Police identify suspected gunman, wounded trooper in Texas mass shooting

Police have identified the suspected gunman and the wounded trooper in Thursday’s mass shooting in Bryan, Texas.

The shooting began at a Kent Moore Cabinet store when 27-year-old Larry Bollin allegedly opened fired with a handgun, the Bryan Police Department said.

Bollin shot seven people at the store, killing one person and leaving two others in critical condition, police said.

The victim who died at the store was Timothy Smith, a 40-year-old man from Bryan, Texas, according to police.

Bollin, who was an employee of the business, left the scene before the police arrived and a manhunt ensued. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives sent special agents and a K-9 from its office in Houston to help find Bollin.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Trooper Juan Rojas Tova was shot while pursuing Bollin and is in critical but stable condition, Texas DPS said.

The trooper was shot in Grimes County, where Bollin lives, about 30 miles away from the original shooting in Bryan.

Bollin is being held on a $1 million bond and has been booked at the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office.

The police have not attributed a motive to the shooting.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) released a statement offering prayers for the victims and their families.
