Treasury has issued 127 million relief payments under Biden aid plan
The Treasury Department has disbursed 127 million economic relief payments worth $325 billion authorized by the massive COVID-19 aid bill signed by President Biden earlier this month.
The department announced Wednesday that a second batch of direct deposits, checks and prepaid debit cards that have begun to arrive this week includes roughly 37 million payments totaling $83 billion. Roughly 17 million of those payments, totaling $38 billion, were sent out through direct deposits, 15 million were sent via check and 5 million were sent via card.
The Treasury Department has already disbursed 90 million payments totaling $242 billion in the first batch that went out starting March 12, the day after Biden signed the $1.2 trillion measure.
During an event marking Equal Pay Day, Biden hailed the disbursement of the 100-millionth check authorized by his relief plan, “and many more are on the way.”
The department, however, had no further information about when recipients of Social Security retirement and disability benefits, veterans benefits and federal railroad pensions would receive their payments if they had not already gotten them. Treasury reiterated that it is working with several federal agencies to obtain 2021 income information for recipients.
Those waiting for their payments can check the “Get My Payment” tool on IRS.gov to see the status of their funds.
