Lyft unveils service allowing rides to be booked with phone call

Ride-hailing company Lyft on Wednesday unveiled a new service that will allow customers to request rides through a phone call.

The new service will function separately from the app in an effort to make the service more accessible for senior citizens, according to the service.

All customers will need in order to use the new service is a phone that has texting and calling capabilities, according to a blog post by the company.

Customers will need to dial a phone number and speak to a Lyft agent. Over the phone, customers will be able to confirm the cost of their ride and pay via debit or credit card.

Trips can be tracked using a link provided through text.

Lyft’s phone-booking service is currently available in 38 cities in Florida and does not offer wheelchair-accessible rides at this time, according to the company.

Uber previously rolled out a similar program in New York and Miami, allowing users to order meal deliveries over the phone instead of on the app, Reuters reported.
