MyPillow CEO: ‘I have not alienated anybody’ but bots, trolls and the media

MyPillow founder and prominent Trump supporter Mike Lindell defended his outspoken activism in a Wednesday New York Times story, arguing that “politics does not hurt your business.”

Lindell defended his actions, including amplifying former President Trump’s unfounded claims of fraud in the 2020 election, to the Times, saying that he hasn’t “alienated anybody except for the bots and the trolls and the hit jobs of the media.”

Lindell noted that MyPillow pulled in more than $300 million in revenue in 2019.

After the deadly Jan. 6 Capitol riot, MyPillow offered a “FightForTrump” discount code as Lindell falsely blamed the incident on “undercover antifa,” prompting backlash.

After it had already banned Trump, Twitter permanently suspended Lindell on Monday, citing “repeated violations” of its civic integrity policy.

Various MyPillow retailers, including Bed Bath & Beyond and Kohl’s, dropped Lindell’s product after he was photographed leaving the Oval Office following a Jan. 15 visit with Trump. Images of his notes following the visit included phrases such as “martial law if necessary” and “Insurrection Act.”

“I just got off the phone with Bed Bath & Beyond. … They’re dropping MyPillow,” Lindell said during an interview with right-wing media channel Right Side Broadcasting Network following the incident.

In a statement to The Hill, a Bed Bath & Beyond spokesperson said the decision to pull MyPillow was part of a larger effort to “discontinue a number of underperforming items and brands.” The spokesperson did not mention political motive, saying that the retailer’s decisions are “data-driven” and “customer-inspired.”

Lindell chalked up the loss of MyPillow retailers to activists trying to “cancel” him.

“They’ve attacked my company. … They’ve attacked companies that I’ve worked with. … They’re trying to cancel me out,” Lindell said on the broadcast.
