Man photographed carrying Confederate flag in Capitol arrested
Kevin Seefried, the man pictured carrying the Confederate flag into the Capitol during last week’s riot, was arrested on Thursday in Delaware.
Seefried was arrested for his participation in the deadly Capitol riot that occurred last Wednesday, two law enforcement officers told The New York Times.
The FBI’s Washington field office sent out a tweet on Sunday asking the public for any information they had on the man carrying the Confederate flag during the Capitol raid.
Law enforcement has been sifting through thousands of pictures and videos to find those who broke into the Capitol building. There have been dozens of arrests made so far. A top federal prosecutor said he is expecting there to be hundreds of arrests in relation to the deadly riot that occurred.
The FBI will continue asking the public for help with identifying the rioters, who were pro-Trump supporters aiming to stop the certification of electoral votes.
Washington, D.C., and other state capitals are preparing for more violence this upcoming weekend and next week before President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration. Authorities have already arrested one man in Chicago who made threats towards the inauguration.
Washington, D.C., has already closed off some roads, and some reports state that the National Mall will be closed on Inauguration Day. Biden will be inaugurated as the 46th president next Wednesday. There will be no crowds at the inauguration due to the coronavirus pandemic.
