Washington quarterback apologizes for partying maskless at a strip club

Washington Football Team quarterback Dwayne Haskins apologized this week after he was photographed at a strip club without a mask Sunday.

Haskins posted an apology to his now-private Twitter account Tuesday, saying he spoke to the team’s head coach Ron Rivera on Monday and that he “took full accountability for putting the team at risk,” NBC News reported.

“It was irresponsible and immature of me and I accept responsibility for my action,” Haskins wrote in a statement that was shared on Twitter before his account was locked. Multiple media outlets confirmed his comments.

Haskins was fined $5,000 earlier this season for violating COVID-19 rules by making reservations for a family friend at the Washington Football Team’s hotel, though any risk was averted because the reservations were discovered and canceled before the friend arrived.

It is not yet determined whether Haskins will face punishment for the apparent coronavirus protocol violation on Sunday, as NFL rules state players and personnel may not enter an establishment with more than 10 people present. It is not clear whether the strip club had more than 10 people in attendance.

An NFL spokesperson told NBC that Haskins will be able to play in this Sunday’s upcoming game for now. His team could still face some manner of discipline for his conduct in violating the COVID-19 protocol.

A spokesman for the team, Sean DeBarbieri, said, “From the team’s perspective, we are aware of [Haskins’s] social media posts and were in contact with the NFL yesterday.”

DeBarbieri added, “We’re going to keep the rest of this in-house. We’re fully focused on our game on Sunday against Carolina.”
