Browns closing facility after second positive COVID-19 test

The Cleveland Browns have closed their team facility after an unidentified player, the second to date, tested positive for the coronavirus.

The NFL team previously closed down its headquarters after offensive lineman Chris Hubbard tested positive on Friday, The Associated Press reported Monday. The second player to test positive immediately self-isolated, according to the team.

The Browns sent out a statement ahead of Coach Kevin Stefanski’s Zoom call with media members Monday morning.

“Per our NFL-NFLPA standard protocols, the individual has immediately self-isolated and the Browns facility is closed while contact tracing is being conducted,” the Browns said. “The team will continue to consult with the league and medical experts on the appropriate next steps as the health and safety of our players, coaches, staff and the entire community remains our highest priority.”

“We’ll have an update for you as contact tracing finishes up,” Stefanski told media in the Zoom call. “As you know, what we’re trying to do is just make sure we follow all the rules and keep everybody safe.”

Both college and professional football teams have struggled with pandemic conditions this season. The Philadelphia Eagles announced on Monday that fans will not be attending games at Lincoln Financial Field for the foreseeable future as the city deals with a spike in cases that is affecting states nationwide.
