Hugh Grant reveals he had COVID-19: ‘My eyeballs felt about three sizes too big’

Actor Hugh Grant revealed Tuesday night that he had contracted COVID-19 back in February.

Grant told “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert that he and his wife have recently tested positive for coronavirus antibodies.

“We have antibodies — I’m rather proud of them,” he said.

“The Undoing” star said he started to suspect he’d come down with the illness after experiencing common symptoms, such as excessive sweating, before exhibiting some that aren’t as typical.

“My eyeballs felt about three sizes too big,” Grant said. “And this feeling as though some enormous man was sitting on my chest, sort of Harvey Weinstein or someone.”

He then lost his sense of smell, which ticked him off to the fact that it was probably the coronavirus and caused him to panic, he explained.

“I started sniffing flowers. Nothing. And you get more and more desperate. I started sniffing in garbage cans. You know, you want to sniff strangers’ armpits because you just can’t smell anything,” he said.

Grant conducted the interview from a London hotel, which he said was “deserted” amid the city’s lockdown, which is currently set to last a month.
