GOP’s Rosendale wins Montana House seat

Alex Bolton

Republican Matt Rosendale is projected as the winner of Montana’s at-large House seat, defeating Democratic candidate Kathleen Williams.

The 60-year-old Republican will replace Rep. Greg Gianforte (R-Mont.), who declined to seek reelection so he could campaign for governor.

Rosendale serves as Montana’s state auditor and lost a Senate race to Sen. Jon Tester (D) in 2018. He campaigned as an ally to President Trump, emphasizing issues such as securing the border, protecting public lands and repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act.

Montana’s at-large House district, which was reestablished in 1993, has only been represented by one Democrat, former Rep. Pat Williams (D-Mont.), who held the seat until 1997.
