Liberty Square Group adds new staff member: The Liberty Square Group has added Matthew Anthes as its new senior vice president for federal relations and government markets. Focusing on homeland security, information technology and education, Anthes will assist clients in identifying, qualifying and capturing federal funding. Prior to joining Liberty Square, Anthes was director of federal affairs at the largest independent government relations firm in D.C. Prior to being director of federal affairs, Anthes was an intern and special assistant to the Clinton administration’s political director.

{mosads}Two Rep. Jack Kingston staffers receive promotions: Norah Jones was recently promoted from legislative assistant to legislative director under the title senior policy adviser for Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.). Jones is originally from Savannah, Ga., and graduated from the University of Georgia in 2004. She interned with Kingston’s office the summer after graduation and was hired as a staff assistant in August 2004. After that, she worked as his House Republican Conference vice chairman’s staff and stayed on until 2006 when she was promoted to legislative assistant.
Meg Gilley was also promoted to share the role with Jones. Gilley was born and raised in Savannah and graduated in 2004 from the University of Georgia. After working for a few months at a nonprofit hospital in Atlanta, Gilley got bitten by the Capitol Hill bug, where she had interned in the summer of 2003. She moved in January 2005 to work for Kingston. She first served as a scheduler, and then as a legislative assistant in his office.

Speaker Pelosi promotes staffer to press assistant: Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) office promoted Evangeline George to press assistant. George previously worked as the correspondence staff assistant and is a graduate of the University of Georgia. She previously interned with Rep. John Barrow (D-Ga.).

Job Moves

Livingston Group creates new cybersecurity practice area: The Livingston Group has created a new cybersecurity practice area, according to founder Bob Livingston. “We should not wait for a cyber attack to take down Wall Street trading or to destroy the country’s electrical grid before government wakes up to the seriousness of this problem,” he said.
With the new practice area, the Livingston Group will aid clients in working with policymakers to put laws into effect aiming to address the cyber-attack threats. The firm plans to engage business entities, utilities and other financial and educational institutions dedicated to a safer cyberspace.

Latta’s legislative director receives award: The Military Coalition presented its annual freedom award to Allison Witt, legislative director for Rep. Bob Latta (R-Ohio), and Tony McCalin, military legislative assistant for Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.). The Military Coalition is an influential D.C.-based consortium of 34 military and veterans groups.

Latta has been very involved with military issues in the Ohio General Assembly and now Congress, Witt said. Witt worked with Latta for four years in the State Legislature and now in Congress. “It’s such an honor and a privilege to be recognized for this award and for the work Rep. Latta has done for military families,” Witt said.

Engagements and weddings

Rogers staff member to wed in the Poconos: Kelly Maughan, who works in Rep. Hal Rogers’s (R-Ky.) office, and Matthew Ferguson, business development manager at ESI International in Arlington, will wed on Oct. 24. Maughan and her fiance will have a Catholic wedding in the Pocono Mountains, near Maughan’s hometown. The two will celebrate with 100 family and friends with a classic fall backdrop in the mountains at the Stroudsmoor Country Inn in Stroudsburg, Pa. The two plan to honeymoon in the Dominican Republic.
