Eagles QB booed during home game by fake crowd noise in Philadelphia

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz was booed during a home game Sunday despite no fans in attendance at Lincoln Financial Field.

An NFL Media audio engineer deciding to pump in the fake crowd noise that included booing. The simulated fan reactions were only heard by TV viewers, not by players at the stadium.

Booing is not uncommon in Philadelphia when the team or a player performs poorly, as was the case over the weekend during a 37-19 loss to the visiting Los Angeles Rams.

Wentz, the team’s highest-paid player, was booed after throwing two interceptions.

“Turnovers are killing us,” Wentz said after the game. “I gotta protect the football.”

The Eagles fell to 0-2 on the season, while the Rams, 2-0, are tied for first in the NFC West with the Arizona Cardinals.

Professional sports leagues have been using artificial crowd noise amid the pandemic as stadiums have reduced capacity or no fans in attendance for COVID-19 reasons.
