Supreme Court justices to hear arguments by phone to start new term

The Supreme Court will continue hearing arguments by phone during its October session, following the same format for teleconference arguments used in May.

The court will hear over a dozen cases during the term, which starts in three weeks. Live audio of the hearings will continue being broadcast to press.

“In keeping with public health guidance in response to COVID-19, the Justices and counsel will all participate remotely,” a Supreme Court spokesperson said in a statement.

“The court will continue to closely monitor public health guidance in determining plans for the November and December argument sessions.”

The court made history earlier this year by allowing live audio broadcasts of its oral arguments for the first time.
