Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume has signed a new multiyear contract with the network, extending a tenure that began in 1997.

Hume, 77, was a longtime fixture at ABC News for 23 years as a White House correspondent and a “World News Tonight” and “Nightline” contributor before joining Fox News. He anchored “Special Report” for 12 years before becoming a political analyst for the network.

“After decades of reporting and anchoring, I wanted to try it as an analyst. FOX News allowed me to do that, for which I am most grateful. I love the work and I’m very excited to continue doing it,” Hume said in a statement Wednesday accompanying the announcement.

Hume recently defended Fox News national security correspondent Jennifer Griffin for her reporting on President Trump’s alleged comments regarding fallen service members as “losers and suckers” after a network contributor questioned her reporting.

“This is bullshit. Jen plays it straight and always has,” Hume said in response to Steve Malloy after he questioned whether Griffin suffers from Stockholm Syndrome and is starting “to identify with the people they’re so supposed to be reporting on.”

Hume has won several journalism awards, including the National Press Foundation’s Sol Taishoff Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism and an Emmy Award for his coverage of the Gulf War in 1991.

“Brit is an exceptional journalist who has played an integral role in our unrivaled political coverage — his extensive knowledge of the intricacies of Washington have made him a tremendous asset to our team and a popular favorite with our viewers,” Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott said in a statement Wednesday. “We look forward to his continued expertise for many years ahead.”
