Joy Behar calls for a ‘change’ in the Electoral College

ABC’s “The View” co-host Joy Behar on Tuesday said that the Electoral College should be changed “as soon as possible” amid her fear that President Trump “could pull off” a victory over Democratic nominee Joe Biden.

Behar’s perspective comes as polls continue to tighten in key battleground states with the general election just eight weeks away.

The RealClearPolitics average shows Biden has a lead of 3.1 points in the battleground states of Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Florida and Arizona. The average is a drop in support compared to late July, when the former vice president’s lead was an average of 6.3 percent in the states.

“I’m worried that Trump could pull this off. We see the polls and we see Biden is leading … but the Russian interference is alive and kicking. Facebook is continuing to leave all the lies on the pages. The Postal Service is being interfered with,” Behar, a frequent and ardent Trump critic, said Tuesday.

“The Electoral College is an issue and a problem. In the history of the United States, there were four presidents who won without the popular vote because of the Electoral College,” Behar continued.

“I think it’s ridiculous that a few states, a handful of states, determine my future. It’s ridiculous, so why bother voting in the rest of the country? They need to change the Electoral College as soon as possible.”

Trump beat Hillary Clinton in 2016 by winning the Electoral College 304-227. The president captured Michigan, Florida, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, but lost the popular vote by about 3 million.

Behar’s comments also come before Trump and Biden take the debate stage for the first time in three weeks.

“Fox News Sunday” anchor Chris Wallace will serve as moderator for the event in Cleveland on Sept. 29.
