Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will be awarded this year’s Liberty Medal by the National Constitution Center.

The Constitution Center said it is honoring Ginsburg with its 32nd annual Liberty Medal for her efforts to “advance liberty and equality for all.”

Ginsburg will be honored through a live video tribute on Sept. 17, which is also Constitution Day. The programming will feature performances by renowned opera singers and tributes from Ginsburg’s friends.

The Constitution Center is also commemorating the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which gave some women the right to vote. The center launched a new initiative, Women and the Constitution, to celebrate women’s equality and leadership.

The ceremony awarding Ginsburg with the Liberty Medal will be the “pinnacle” of the new initiative, according to the center.

Ginsburg was nominated to the Supreme Court by former President Clinton. She took her seat in August 1993.

Before she joined the Supreme Court, Ginsburg, born in Brooklyn, N.Y., was an instrumental figure in launching the Women’s Rights Project of the American Civil Liberties Union and served as the ACLU’s general counsel.
