Sunday shows preview: Republicans gear up for national convention, USPS debate continues in Washington

The ongoing debate over the Postal Service and the Republican National Convention starting Monday are expected to dominate the Sunday talk show circuit.

The Republican convention comes after the Democratic National Convention this week, where speakers presented a scathing criticism of President Trump from several angles. Trump even received rebukes from  members of his own party and former administration officials that spoke at the event.

Though it’s still unclear exactly who will be speaking and on what day, it’s been rumored Trump will have a speaking role each day instead of saving his address for the final evening.

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chair Ronna McDaniel is scheduled to appear on CBS’ “Face the Nation” this weekend. Jason Miller, an adviser in Trump’s reelection campaign, is scheduled to appear on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday.

Saturday, the House is considered Democratic legislation that would ban the U.S. Postal Service from making functional changes that could imperil delivery of mail-in ballots for the November elections and provide them $25 billion in stimulus funds.

The funding was originally put in the Democratic stimulus package proposal passed in May, which faces Republican push back in the Senate.

The bill comes after Postmaster General Louis DeJoy announced various operational changes earlier this summer such as the shuffling of top agency personnel, the removal of mail sorting machines, and the curtailing of overtime for Post Office workers. These changes, Democrats say, can have a negative impact on the November election.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) are scheduled to appear on  CNN’s “State of the Union” and Fox News Channel’s “Sunday Morning Futures” this weekend, respectively.

White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, a key administration negotiator, is booked on ABC’s “This Week.”
