A record number of voters disapprove of the way President Trump is handling the coronavirus crisis, a new Hill-HarrisX poll finds.
Fifty-seven percent of registered voters in the June 22-23 survey said they do not approve of Trump’s handling of COVID-19, the highest number recorded in the poll since it began asking the question in early-to-mid March.
By contrast, 43 percent of voters approved of his handling of the pandemic in this most recent survey.
The poll found the highest rating the president received on the issue to be in a March 22 survey when 56 percent of voters supported his handling of the coronavirus pandemic. However, his approval on the issue has been steadily declining since.
The number of Republican voters who approve of the president’s handling of COVID-19 dropped from 83 percent in the last survey to 76 percent.
Support among Democratic voters also fell 5 percentage points from the June 8-10 poll.
In addition, the survey shows a steady decline in approval on the issue of the economy: A March 8-9 survey found 58 percent of voters approved of Trump’s handling of the economy; in the June 22-23 survey, 52 percent of voters approved of the president’s job on the issue.
Among overall job support Trump’s numbers remain relatively steady, dropping from 47 percent in the June 8-10 survey to 46 percent in the most recent poll.
The Hill-HarrisX poll was conducted online among 951 registered voters between June 22 and 23. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.17 percentage points.
