Honduras president, wife and aides test positive for coronavirus
Honduras President Juan Orlando Hernández on Tuesday announced that he, his wife and two aides have tested positive for the coronavirus.
In a televised address, Hernández said that he began feeling ill over the weekend and received his test results on Tuesday. His wife, Ana Garcia, also tested positive but is asymptomatic.
“I feel enough strength and energy to continue forward and beat this pandemic,” Hernández said. “We are going to get ahead of this. I trust in God, Honduran doctors and medicine.”

Hernández said he plans to isolate himself and will continue to run the government.
Alejandro Giammattei, the president of Guatemala, wished him a quick recovery.

Hernández urged Hondurans to take his diagnosis as a reminder to stay at home and isolate as much as possible.
“Because of my job I have not been able to stay 100 percent at home,” he said.
Hernández imposed a strict nationwide curfew in mid-March to limit the spread of COVID-19 but started reopening the economy a week ago.
Honduras has 9,178 confirmed coronavirus cases and has recorded 322 deaths, according to data by Johns Hopkins University.
Hernández and Garcia are now on a growing list of world leaders and their families who have tested positive for the virus.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson of Britain tested positive in March and spent three nights in intensive care.
Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, the wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, tested positive in March.
