Grenell to step down as US ambassador to Germany: report

Richard Grenell will step down as U.S. ambassador to Berlin in the next few weeks, German outlet Die Welt reported Sunday, citing information from the German Press Agency.

President Trump tapped Grenell to serve as acting director of national intelligence in February, but his time in the role is coming to a close.

The senate confirmed Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-Texas) to the role last week in a 49-44 vote.

Grenell notified the White House he would resign from his role as ambassador once Ratcliffe is confirmed, the Daily Wire reported in March.

A spokesperson for the embassy in Berlin declined to comment on Grenell’s move when contacted by Politico

“It is our policy not to comment on travel or schedules, but Ambassador Grenell has continued to actively engage on administration priorities on Germany while serving as the acting director of national Intelligence,” the spokesperson told the outlet.

The Hill reached out to the White House for comment.
