MSNBC political analyst Karine Jean-Pierre joins Biden campaign

Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign has hired MSNBC political analyst and MoveOn chief public affairs officer Karine Jean-Pierre as a senior adviser.

“I am thrilled to announce that I will be joining the Biden campaign as a Senior Adviser. This is the most important general election in generations and I just could not sit this election out. I look forward to doing this work with @JoeBiden and the team!,” Jean-Pierre wrote on Twitter announcing the move.

Axios first reported Jean-Pierre joining the campaign.

The Trump campaign quickly responded to the hiring by noting Jean-Pierre’s past statements regarding women coming forward with sexual assault allegations against those running for office.

The Trump campaign attack comes as former staffer Tara Reade has accused Biden of sexual assault. Biden has strongly denied it.

“Joe Biden’s new senior advisor is a #MeToo hypocrite. @K_JeanPierre said we need to “believe women” and that someone being “accused of sexual harassment or assault” disqualified them from running for office,” said the tweet from Trump’s campaign.

“Now she’s working for Biden, who stands accused of sexual assault,” it added.

“I think if you’re running for office, you can’t have been accused of sexual harassment or assault. And I think that we have to really take that next step here and make sure that doesn’t happen with anyone in office or out of office,” Jean-Pierre told CNN in December 2017 in the clip shared by the “Trump War Room.”

Biden during a virtual MSNBC town hall on May 15 said that people “should vote their heart,” when asked what his message to voters would be regarding the allegations. “If they believe Tara Reade, they probably shouldn’t vote for me. I wouldn’t vote for me if I believe Tara Reade.”
