Washington state police seeking women taking packages while dressed as nurses

Police in Kennewick, Wash., posted photos over the weekend of women dressed as nurses who stole at least one package from the front porch of an actual nurse.

“Both appear to dresse[d] as nurses and we do not believe they are actual nurses,” police wrote on Facebook. “The nurses we are fortunate to know only give their time, lives, and take the vitals of their patients(not their property).”

The images were taken from surveillance video captured by Michelle Santiago, a nurse who was working a shift when a package was stolen off her porch last Wednesday, according to CNN.

The package was for her husband, who works in law enforcement.

“I could see the FedEx driver drop the package off around 3 o’clock that afternoon in one video and in [a following] video this woman walks up and takes it less than 5 minutes later,” Santiago told CNN.

Two women appear in the images shared by police. Both are wearing what look like scrubs and ID badges. One is wearing gloves.

A Kennewick Police Department spokesperson told USA Today that they’ve received multiple tips in the case, but so far have not made any arrests.

It is not clear why the package thieves are dressed as nurses. Nurses have been on the front lines of the coronavirus outbreak in Washington. The state was one of the first hit in the U.S. in the pandemic. The Washington State Department of Health reports more than 15,000 confirmed cases and 834 deaths as of Monday morning.
