Fox News to host ‘America Together: Returning to Work’ town hall with Trump

Fox News announced Wednesday it will host a virtual town hall with President Trump on Sunday night focusing on COVID-19 and the reopening of the U.S. economy.

The program, “America Together: Returning to Work,” will be co-moderated by “Special Report” anchor Bret Baier and “The Story” anchor Martha MacCallum. It will be broadcast live from the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C.

The network said the president will answer viewer-submitted questions for 90 minutes of the two-hour event, which will begin at 7 p.m. ET.

“The town hall will be presented in front of a virtual audience, where participants will raise their questions about the phased re-opening of the country to President Trump,” Fox News said in a release.

“Viewers will be able to submit their questions ahead of the May 3rd special to FNC’s social media accounts on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for a chance to appear in the national broadcast,” it added.

Trump last appeared for a sit-down interview with Baier and MacCallum on March 5 for a town hall in Scranton, Pa.

The Scranton event was the most-watched election town hall in cable news history, according to Nielsen Media Research, drawing more than 4.2 million viewers.

The balancing act between keeping the public safe from the coronavirus while slowly reopening the U.S. economy continues to be one the Trump administration attempts to navigate. 

The U.S. death toll from the virus is more than 57,000, according to Johns Hopkins University data, with the country’s gross domestic product retracting by 4.8 percent in the first quarter.

Overall, more than 26 million Americans have applied for unemployment benefits in the past four weeks.
