Trump says son Barron is happy, but ‘not as happy as he could be’ amid social distancing

President Trump said on Saturday that his youngest son, Barron Trump, did not seem much bothered by the social distancing measures put in place by the White House amid the coronavirus outbreak, but noted that he would rather that things returned to normal.

The president was asked about how Barron, 14, was doing during the pandemic during his daily White House press briefing on the coronavirus.

“He’s in his room, he’s happy, but not as happy as he could be,” Trump said. He also said that his son is a good athlete and likes to play soccer.

Schools and universities across the country, including Washington, D.C., have closed during the outbreak, opting for virtual learning.

Youth as well as professional sports have also been canceled since March, as the White House and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have issued detailed social distancing guidelines and have banned large group gatherings.

Trump met electronically with the heads of the country’s professional sports leagues on Saturday and said during the briefing that he wants the leagues, along with the rest of the U.S. economy, to restart as soon as possible. However, Trump balked when he was asked to give a specific date.
