Former ‘Simpsons’ writer slams Pompeo tweet: ‘Please do not ever ever ever use Simpsons material’

A former writer for “The Simpsons” on Wednesday ripped Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for using a snapshot from the show to knock Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), saying “please do not ever ever ever use Simpsons material in your twitter or watch the show or refer to it in any way.”

Bill Oakley, along with his writing partner Josh Weinstein, was the executive producer and showrunner during the seventh and eighth seasons of the long-running animated sitcom.

He took to Twitter after President Trump’s State of the Union to make the request of Pompeo, who tweeted an image of Lisa Simpson tearfully ripping up a sheet of paper — an apparent dig at Pelosi after the Speaker tore a copy of the president’s speech at the end of the address Tuesday night.

“Mr. Secretary of State please do not ever ever ever use Simpsons material in your twitter or watch the show or refer to it in any way,” Oakley wrote.

The image is from a Simpsons episode titled “Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington,” in which Lisa tears up her prize-winning essay about American values after witnessing a corrupt congressman accepting a bribe, shattering her faith in democracy.

Oakley clarified that the snapshot was from an episode before he or Weinstein worked on the show, noting that he made his request “as a FAN of this episode, not someone who worked on it.”

Pompeo’s tweet from his personal account came after Pelosi tore up her copy of the State of the Union speech immediately after Trump finished addressing a joint session of Congress. Pelosi later told reporters it was “the courteous thing to do given the alternatives.”

The White House has condemned Pelosi’s actions, saying she “ripped up” various figures and milestones cited in the address, including “one of our last surviving Tuskegee Airmen” and “the survival of a child born at 21 weeks.”

This was not the first time Oakley has knocked Republicans. In November, he cited a joke from a 1994 episode of “The Simpsons” while saying the GOP was inadvertently defending the president.
