Calif. Republican challenger interfered at DUI stop
Police cited a Republican state assembly man challenging U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Calif.) for unruly behavior at a DUI stop in Orange County.
The Sacramento Bee reported that Assemblyman Van Tran disrupted a DUI arrest of a Westminster city councilman. Tran, who was threatened with arrest himself, claimed that he was the councilman’s attorney and stopped a field sobriety test.
When Tran claimed he was the councilman’s attorney, a police officer reportedly said “You need to stand over there. If you come back over here, I’m going to have you arrested.” Tran disputed the account.
Councilman Andy Quach, who is Tran’s protege, crashed his car into an electric pole on August 2, cutting power to 300 homes.
The Orange County Register reported that Westminster Police Chief Andy Hall said that Quach left the scene of the accident with his attorney Bart Kasperowicz.
