Hoekstra: Michigan gov. ‘needs to be stronger’ against Gitmo plan

One of the most outspoken critics of the Obama administration’s new Guantanamo Bay proposal knocked his home state’s governor for lacking the same fervor he has.

Rep. Pete Hoeskstra (R-Mich.) said Gov. Jennifer Granholm (D-Mich.) needs to harden her opposition to the new plan that, if approved, may send terror suspects to a soon-to-be-shuttered maximum security prison in Standish, Mich.

He tweeted Wednesday:

Gov Granholm says she has reservations on Gitmo north (Standish). Glad she is listening to our input. Needs to be stronger though.

Granholm said this morning that she would rather have California inmates fill Michigan’s prisons than Guantanamo Bay prisoners.

This week, Hoekstra said that Michigan shouldn’t “bail out” Obama’s “hasty” decision to create a new facility to house the detainees in the continental U.S. The Michigan Republican added he would “do everything possible” to stop the plan’s implementation.
