Leading Black PAC investing 7 figures to turn out vote
One of the leading Black political action committees has announced a seven-figure push to mobilize Black voters ahead of November’s critical election.
In a memo shared exclusively with The Hill, Rolling Sea Action Fund and the nonprofit Let It Resound said they are targeting Black voters in House races in Akron, Ohio; Flint, Mich.; Omaha, Neb.; Raleigh, N.C.; Hempstead, N.Y.; Virginia Beach, Va.; and Las Vegas.
House races in those areas, the groups said, are key to securing Democratic control of the lower chamber of Congress.
“This is a part of a seven-figure push to ensure no stone is left unturned and we fully engage Black voters who will determine House control in critical races,” a source familiar with the initiative told The Hill. “We’ve got nearly 100 days to make Vice President Harris, President Harris and Hakeem Jeffries Speaker of the House.”
The announcement comes just days after President Biden announced he would no longer seek reelection, and instead endorsed Vice President Harris. Harris has raised more than $100 million between Sunday afternoon and Monday evening, according to reports, including more than $1 million from #WinWithBlackMen on Monday night.
According to the memo, the organizations will focus on repairing and rebuilding Democrats’ relationship with Black voters through community engagement events, civic education and partnerships with community-based organizations. This is a crucial step forward as Black voters’ support of the Democratic Party has slipped over the last few years with Biden at the helm.
Part of the initiative also includes partnerships with social media influencers to address misinformation and disinformation targeting Black voters. The investment also plans to “make clear” how MAGA Republicans are impacting Black voters.
“We intend to invest more than $8 million in a hyper-targeted, blunt and toothy media and message campaign to reach voters online, on the air waves, and with out-of-home media in their communities,” the memo said.
The initiative has already begun hosting local voter-led education events alongside community partners in the targeted districts. The initiative is also committed to registering 150,000 Black voters, including sporadic voters and first-time voters. The groups are also emphasizing early voting for infrequent Black voters.
“We are doing the work to engage and persuade our most loyal voting base as national headwinds signal an exhausted cohort of these voters need a reminder of how Democrats are delivering and the stakes of this critical election,” the memo said.
