Deeds creates separate Twitter to track campaign
In another move showing that Virginia’s gubernatorial candidates are stepping up their campaigns on Twitter, Creigh Deeds (D) has created an entirely new Twitter account to track his campaign travels during a swing through the southern portion of his state.
Deeds tweeted on Friday:
I’ll be touring over 20 cities & towns next week, just launched @DeedsCountry #followfriday
@DeedsCountry made a fairly unsubstantial tweet this afternoon:
Check back soon for some special announcements… http://www.deedsforvirginia…
The name “@DeedsCountry” may also refer to Bath County, the district Deeds represents in the Senate of Virginia. The rural county is located in the Allegheny Mountains.
The account’s bio reads “Following @creighdeeds weeklong tour to more than 20 cities and towns in Southwest and Southside Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley.” The tour reaches into reliable Republican territory.
Deeds announced his tour at a tough time for Democrats in the state. His opponent Bob McDonnell (R) recently took a commanding 15 point lead over Deeds in the latest tracking poll. Earlier this month, President Barack Obama’s approval rating in the state fell to 48 percent.
Obama’s Virginia victory in the 2008 presidential elections was the first by a Democratic presidential nominee since 1964.
