Majority of Americans don’t think Trump will concede if he loses election: Poll
A majority of Americans said they don’t think former President Trump is going to “accept the results and concede once the votes have been certified” if he does not win the upcoming presidential election, according to a poll.
In the CNN poll released Tuesday, 77 percent of respondents said they think Trump won’t “accept the results and concede once the votes have been certified” in the case of him not winning this fall. Only 28 percent in the poll said they believe Trump “will accept the results and concede once the votes have been certified” if he’s not victorious in the upcoming election.
In contrast, 78 percent of Americans surveyed said, on the condition that President Biden did not win in the fall, they think he “will accept the results and concede once the votes have been certified.” Likewise, 22 percent in the poll said that if Biden is not successful in the upcoming election, they believe he won’t “accept the results and concede once the votes have been certified.”
Biden has faced a rough week of press in the wake of a bad presidential debate performance last week, in which he stumbled over his words and had a raspy voice. The debate performance resulted in raising questions about the president possibly stepping away from the top of the Democratic ticket.
Biden’s campaign noted tight polling versus Trump on Wednesday in an all-staff memo, which comes amid the struggles it has faced in the wake of last week’s debate. The memo said the campaign is prepared for “lots of chatter and analysis” surrounding new polls; however, its “internal battleground toplines from last night show a steady race.”
The poll was conducted June 28-30 and featured 1,274 respondents, with a margin of sampling error at the 95 percent confidence level of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
