A$AP Rocky blocked from performing in Swedish prison where he was held

American rapper A$AP Rocky has been barred from performing in the Swedish prison where he was held earlier this year on assault charges, the country’s prison board said Wednesday.

Vilhelm Grevik of Sweden’s Prison and Probation Service told Swedish news outlet Svenska Dagbladet Wednesday that the prison board can’t hold a concert in the prison, citing logistical and security concerns, The Associated Press reports.

The rapper had sought to entertain inmates at the Kronoberg prison, but will still be performing at Stockholm’s Ericsson Globe arena on Dec. 11, the AP reports.

The report comes after A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, was convicted in August of assault after being arrested and charged following a June incident in the Swedish capital in which he reportedly was involved.

A video of the incident began circulating on social media and appeared to show the 30-year-old musician slamming another person into the ground.

The case gained additional traction after President Trump said he learned about it from first lady Melania Trump and had also talked about it with rapper Kanye West.

The incident caused some diplomatic tensions between the U.S. and Sweden, with Trump asking the country’s prime minister to intervene — a request that Stefan Löfven declined.
