Al Gore: ‘Most dangerous time’ in America ‘I’ve ever seen’

Former Vice President Al Gore remarked Tuesday that America’s divided political base has led the country to its most “dangerous” moment in recent history.

Gore argued during an appearance on NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers” that President Trump was responsible for an “all-out assault” on “American values.”

“I honestly believe, Seth, that all joking aside, this is the most dangerous time for the United States of America I’ve ever seen in my lifetime,” Gore said.

“There is just a radical all-out assault from Donald Trump on the values of America, the norms of America, the rule of law in America.”

The former vice president reiterated those comments Wednesday at a press conference before an appearance in Nashville, according to the Tennessean.

“I do think that Donald Trump has been responsible for an assault on America’s values and norms and the rule of law, and I do think it’s dangerous,” he said, according to the newspaper.

Pointing to the Watergate scandal that forced former President Nixon out of office, Gore added that he thought America would withstand the Trump presidency: “I kinda think that we’ll prove to be resilient again in the aftermath of this period.”

Gore, who has made environmental issues the center of his focus since leaving public office, is a vocal critic of the president and last fall referred to Trump as the face of climate change denial in America.

“It’s really significant … that Donald J. Trump is now the face of climate denial,” he said on “The Daily Show.”
