Conaway wins Democratic primary in race to succeed New Jersey Rep. Andy Kim

State Assembly Member Herb Conaway won the Democratic nomination for the seat representing New Jersey’s 3rd Congressional District, Decision Desk HQ projects.

Conaway defeated fellow state Assembly member Carol Murphy and a few other candidates for the nomination to succeed Rep. Andy Kim (D-N.J.), who chose not to seek another term in the House to instead run for Senate. Kim also won his Senate primary Tuesday night, projections show, and is the heavy favorite to win in November.

Conaway had the endorsement of the Democratic parties for the three counties that make up the district: Burlington, Mercer and Monmouth.

He will be the favorite to win the seat in the Democratic-leaning district. It had been more of a battleground when Kim first won election to the seat in 2018 but has since become more favorable to Democrats following the redistricting process.
