Greene reacts to Trump verdict with upside-down American flag

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) on Thursday shared an upside-down American flag in reaction to former President Trump being found guilty on all counts in his hush money case.

Greene, in a Thursday post on the social platform X, shared a graphic of an inverted flag, a sign of distress that has been widely used by the “Stop the Steal” movement that argues Trump did not lose the 2020 election.

It came shortly after Trump was found guilty of all 34 counts of falsifying business records in New York, making him the first former U.S. president to become a convicted felon.

Trump, speaking after the verdict, called it a “disgrace” and a “rigged trial.”

He will be sentenced on July 11, just four days before the 2024 Republican National Convention this summer in Milwaukee.

Trump could face jail time, though first-time offenders on charges like Trump’s are rarely incarcerated.

Greene, a longtime ally of Trump, was among many Republicans to lament the historic verdict.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said the trial was a “purely political exercise” and made unsubstantiated claims that the Biden administration was responsible for the conviction in New York.

Matt Schlapp, chair of the American Conservative Union (ACU), called the event “a tragic day in American history” and pledged that Trump would win office again.

The 34 charges centered on a reimbursement made to Trump’s ex-fixer, Michael Cohen, for a payment made to porn actress Stormy Daniels to stay quiet about an alleged affair with the former president.
