Syria’s Assad: Trump is ‘the best’ because he’s ‘most transparent president’

Syrian President Bashar Assad has said President Trump is the “best” U.S. president because he is “transparent.”

{mosads} “He’s the best American president,” said Assad in a recent interview, according to an NBC News translation.”Not because his policies are good, but because he’s the most transparent president.” {mosads}

Referring to other U.S. presidents, Assad said “all they are is a group of criminals who only represent the interest of American lobbies of large corporations in weapons, oil and others.”

“Trump speaks with transparency to say ‘we want the oil,'” he said. 

“What do we want more than a transparent foe?” added the foreign leader.

His comments follow Trump’s recent withdrawal of U.S. troops from northern Syria, which was then followed by a Turkish military offensive in the country.

The move received backlash from both sides of the aisle, with bipartisan lawmakers arguing it put U.S. security and allies at risk. 

Following the move the U.S.-allied Kurds aligned themselves with Assad.

A report from earlier this year attributed hundreds of chemical weapons attacks during Syria’s civil war to Assad’s government.
