CREATIVE CHOICE: Grassroots Enterprise has hired Mark Maloney as its executive creative director. Maloney, who is a consumer-marketing design veteran, brings experience from Coca-Cola and MTV. His most recent position was with no|inc, an award-winning online communications consultancy he founded in 1999. Maloney has an M.S. from the University of Maryland and a B.S. from Roanoke College. He resides in Baltimore with his wife and two sons.

Engagements

{mosads}HAPPILY EVER AFTER: Ashley Roybal, congressional aide for Rep. Mike Honda (D-Calif.), recently got engaged in Disneyland to her longtime boyfriend DJ Reid. Reid took Roybal to the theme park on July 11 for her 25th birthday. His friend got them reservations at Club 33, a private, five-star, members-only restaurant that was formerly Walt Disney’s private club hidden in the park. Just before dessert, their waiter brought out a small silver plate with several roses. In the center was a box with an engagement ring in it. Roybal, surprised and speechless, took a minute to recover after Reid got down on one knee and asked her to marry him.

The two met in college during their first year when they were on the debate team together. After two years, Roybal transferred to UCLA while Reid stayed in the Bay Area at San Jose State. They had a long-distance relationship for two years, and when Roybal graduated in 2006, she moved back to the Bay Area, where Reid had settled. A year later, she began working for Rep. Honda. Reid is legal project manager at Yahoo.

Roybal said yes. The two haven’t set a wedding date yet, but she is hoping to marry next spring or summer.
