DeMint claims Dems — not him — are biggest obstacle to health reform

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) responded to President Obama’s words about him in a speech on Monday, saying that it isn’t he, but congressional Democrats, who are the biggest obstacle to healthcare reform.

After Obama criticized DeMint for having called the healthcare reform bid Obama’s “Waterloo,” DeMint took to his Twitter page, blasting the president’s record in the Senate on healthcare.

DeMint tweeted Tuesday:

for years, President Obama voted against real solutions to make health care affordable and accessible http://tinyurl.com/kujmwu

The South Carolina conservative linked to a page on his Senate website with a list of votes Obama took during his time as a senator against various reforms DeMint has favored.

He then followed up:

The biggest obstacles to Obama’s takeover of healthcare are Democrats, the American people, and the facts http://tinyurl.com/kjoly4

Indeed centrist Democrats in both houses of Congress have sought to slow down and change some elements of the health reform proposals that are on the table, including a surtax to finance the program and the creation of a public (or “government-run”) option.
