GOP uses Seger to tweak Obama on delays
Senate Republicans needled President Obama in a news release today, linking to a video from no less than classic rocker Bob Seger to make their point.
The GOPers linked their cheeky release to a YouTube video of Bob Seger singing “Against the Wind.” As Seger croons, “I was living to run and running to live / Never worried about paying or even how much I owed,” readers can link to a report of Robert Gibbs promising that plans to cut $100 million from the budget are forthcoming.
The GOP-ers sought to paint Obama as carving time for televised press conferences while procrastinating on issues of economic importance and financial security.
As the president prepares to dazzle the viewing audience Wednesday night, his administration has struggled to meet three key deadlines. Findings from a Guantanamo Bay task force, a Cabinet plan for spending cuts and a congressionally-mandated economic report will have to wait.
Of course, should Obama choose to have a little fun himself tomorrow night, the president could respond to questions about budget cuts with lines from another Seger classic: “I ain’t got no money / But I sure got a whole lot of love.”
(Seger, according to a 2006 Reuters article, is a “lifelong Democrat.”)
Here’s the video to wich the Republicans linked:
