New Yorker cover depicts Trump, Giuliani shoving Uncle Sam off a bridge

The latest issue of The New Yorker magazine, published Friday, depicts President Trump and personal attorney Rudy Giuliani throwing Uncle Sam off a bridge in “cement boots.”

“On Tuesday, [Speaker] Nancy Pelosi [D-Calif.] announced that the House of Representatives would be pursuing a formal impeachment inquiry against President Trump,” writes longtime cartoonist and illustrator Barry Blitt. “The news came after a whistle-blower’s complaint, which was released to the public on Thursday and alleges that Trump — with the help of Rudy Giuliani — has been using ‘the power of his office to solicit interference from a foreign country in the 2020 election.’ ”

Blitt has been the publication’s lead cartoonist since 1992.  

{mosads}The intelligence community whistleblower’s complaint claims that Trump pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, a 2020 presidential candidate, telling Zelensky to coordinate with Giuliani and Attorney General William Barr.

Trump has vehemently denied any wrongdoing while pointing the finger at Democrats for launching another “witch hunt” against him.

The whistleblower complaint released Thursday also alleges that two State Department officials spoke to Giuliani “in an attempt to ‘contain the damage’ to U.S. national security” over his talks with Ukrainian officials.

Giuliani has denied the allegations. 

“At no time did either one of them say they wanted to contain damage,” Giuliani told CNN on Thursday. “At no time did the State Department in communication with me ever relay any of that information you’re talking about.”

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), another White House hopeful, has called for a probe by the New York State Bar Association into Giuliani’s conversations with Ukraine.
