Mika Brzezinski to John Kerry: Why wouldn’t you run for president ‘during this crucial time’?
MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski on Monday pressed 2004 Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry on why he isn’t mounting a White House bid to challenge President Trump “during this crucial time.”
“So, Mr. Secretary, before you go, of course we won’t put you in the awkward position of talking about the other Democratic candidates. But some might ask why wouldn’t you run, during this crucial time, for president of the United States?” she said during an interview on “Morning Joe.”
{mosads}”Because I’m doing what I’m doing right now,” Kerry replied. “How’s that?”
Brzezinski and co-host Joe Scarborough chuckled at Kerry’s response, with Scarborough, a former GOP congressman who left the Republican Party in 2017, pledging to provide media coverage of the former secretary of State when he eventually launches his presidential campaign.
“Well, when you come back to do the full launch, we’ll follow up,” Scarborough quipped. “As [the late NBC ‘Meet the Press’ moderator] Tim Russert used to say, ‘More to come.’ “
Kerry, who served as secretary of State under former President Obama, was on the program to promote his climate change organization, World War Zero, and to discuss the group’s initiatives.
Kerry lost to former President George W. Bush in 2004 by a 286-251 margin in the Electoral College.
