Reid raises $3.2 million, banks $7.3 million
The Associated Press reports Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) raised about $3.2 million in the second quarter. Of course, about two-thirds of that is thanks to a single fundraiser with President Obama.
Reid now has $7.3 million cash on hand and a really good start on his still-opponentless reelection race. Despite his big financial advantage, though Reid’s numbers remain low. Getting an opponent for him will be a top priority for Republicans now that they have filled holes in open-seat races in New Hampshire and Illinois.
Reid’s total is the second biggest of the second quarter so far, with Florida Gov. Charlie Crist (R) having raised $4.3 million for his Senate campaign.
About the only one who might beat them is Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), who was tops with $2.3 million raised in the first quarter. Second quarter reports are due Wednesday by midnight.
