Pelosi memoir ‘The Art of Power’ planned for August release

A new memoir penned by former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) will be available later this year, according to publisher Simon & Schuster.

In the book, titled “The Art of Power,” Pelosi details her years in public service, legislation she’s helped to enact as Speaker, her personal account of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol and her relationship working with former President Trump, among other stories.

The memoir will be available Aug. 6, per the publisher.

The woman who has been lauded by her opposition as ‘the most powerful Speaker’ ever shows us why she is not afraid of a good fight,” Simon & Schuster said in the announcement, shared with The Hill. “‘The Art of Power’ is about the fighting spirit that has always animated her, and the historic legacy that spirit has produced.”

Pelosi, 84, stepped down from leadership last year after leading Democrats in the lower chamber for two decades. The move came after Republicans won the majority in the 2022 midterm elections.

She was first elected to the House in 1986 and quickly moved up the ranks, becoming minority leader in 2003 and eventually Speaker in 2007. The California Democrat was the first female to hold the coveted position.

She held the gavel until 2011, when Republicans took control of the House. But when Democrats regained the majority in 2019, she was once again sworn in as Speaker.

“People always ask me how I did what I did in the House,” Pelosi said, according to the announcement. “In ‘The Art of Power,’ I reveal how — and more importantly, why.”

Pelosi published her first book, “Know Your Power,” in 2008 and was written to inspire young women to follow their dreams.

In her new memoir, the former Speaker also shares a personal account from a 2022 incident when a man broke into her home in California and attacked her husband, Paul Pelosi, with a hammer.
