CNN responds to White House, says it fixed map mistake: ‘You all should try it sometime’

CNN responded directly to White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham on Thursday after she called out the news network for mislabeling Alabama on a map.

“Thanks, Stephanie. Yes, we made a mistake (which we fixed in less than 30 seconds),” CNN Communications tweeted in response to Grisham. “And now we are admitting it. You all should try it sometime.”

Grisham on Thursday tweeted a screenshot of a CNN broadcast where the network mistakenly labeled Alabama as Mississippi on a map when discussing the path of Hurricane Dorian.

{mosads}The image was shown as part of a report on Dorian’s progress as it works its way up the eastern U.S. coast. Dorian on Thursday had moved north and was hitting the Carolinas.

The White House press secretary seized on the mistake after CNN and several news outlets reported on President Trump’s earlier claim that the storm could hit Alabama.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that originally “certain models strongly suggested” Dorian would pass over Florida before hitting Alabama, though this was not the prediction offered by the National Hurricane Center. 

Trump on Wednesday displayed a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration map in the Oval Office that appeared to be altered with a black marker showing the path of the storm going toward Alabama. Trump later told reporters he didn’t know anything about the changed map.
