Meghan McCain: ‘I’m not living without guns’

Meghan McCain of “The View” quarreled with her co-hosts about gun regulations Tuesday, saying that she wouldn’t live without firearms.

McCain critiqued a proposal by presidential candidate and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) for a mandatory assault weapons buyback, saying, “If you’re going to be a gun grabber, you don’t get my vote.”

Co-host Joy Behar responded by pointing out that former Democratic presidents passed gun control legislation, such as an assault weapons ban passed under former President Clinton. {mosads}

“Democrats, when they’re in office, they do do something about guns. So if you keep rooting for Republicans, you’re going to get nothing done,” she said.

McCain asserted that taking away assault weapons would cause violence.

“The AR-15 is by far the most popular gun in America,” the conservative panelist said. “If you’re talking about going and taking people’s guns away from them, there’s going to be a lot of violence.”

“They lived without them for many years during the ban,” Behar interjected.

“I’m not living without guns,” McCain responded. “It’s just that simple.”

“What about living without the assault weapons that are killing our children?” questioned co-host Sunny Hostin.

The exchange followed a mass shooting over the weekend in Odessa, Texas, in which seven people were killed. U.S. gun laws have faced increased scrutiny since a pair of mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, last month left a total of 31 people dead.
